چکیده

We study the previously conjectured form of the physical electron propagator and its allegedly Luttinger type of behavior in the theory of the pseudogap phase of high-temperature copper-oxide superconductors and other effective QED-like models. We demonstrate that, among a whole family of seemingly gauge-invariant functions, the conjectured ”stringy ansatz” for the electron propagator is the only one that is truly invariant. However, contrary to the results of the earlier works, it appears to have a negative anomalous dimension, which makes it a rather poor candidate to the role of the physical electron propagator. Instead, we argue that the latter may, in fact, feature a ”super-Luttinger” behavior characterized by a faster than any power-law decay Gphys(x) ∝ exp(−const ln 2 |x|).

What Can We Learn from QED at Large Couplings?

In order to understand QCD at the energies relevant to hadronic physics one requires analytical methods for dealing with relativistic gauge field theories at large couplings. Strongly coupled quenched QED provides an ideal laboratory for the development of such techniques, in particular as many calculations suggest that – like QCD – this theory has a phase with broken chiral symmetry. In this t...

In this paper we study the infra-red behaviour of a gauge invariant and physically motivated description of a charged particle in 2 + 1 dimensions. We show that both the mass shift and the wave function renormalisation are infra-red finite on-shell. email: [email protected] email: [email protected] Introduction The infra-red (IR) problem is well known to be a consequence of the unj...

Two mechanisms for the elimination of pinch singularities in out of equilibrium thermal field theories

We analyze ill-defined pinch singularities characteristic of out of equilibrium thermal field theories. We identify two mechanisms that eliminate pinching even at the single selfenergy insertion approximation to the propagator: the first is based on the vanishing of phase space at the singular point (threshold effect). It is effective in QED with a massive electron and a massless photon. In mas...

Mass-Shell Behavior of Electron Propagator at Low Temperature

In high temperature gauge theories the fermion propagator is quite di erent than at zero temperature [1] and calculations require the Braaten-Pisarski resummation of hard thermal loops [2{4]. One of the important quantities to be calculated is the imaginary part of the fermion selfenergy, or damping rate, which has been computed in various circumstances. In QCD the massless gluons are so change...

Gauge-Independent Off-Shell Fermion Self-Energies at Two Loops: The Cases of QED and QCD

We use the pinch technique formalism to construct the gauge-independent off-shell two-loop fermion self-energy, both for Abelian (QED) and non-Abelian (QCD) gauge theories. The new key observation is that all contributions originating from the longitudinal parts of gauge boson propagators, by virtue of the elementary tree-level Ward identities they trigger, give rise to effective vertices, whic...
